a film by Heather Langley & Alexis Harte

LUPINE IS GROWING.

A SONG WITH A STORY
There are few more powerful pairings than music and animation.
But Lupine is more than a music video. It's a narrative film that resulted from a songwriter and an animator joining forces to tell an intimate, handcrafted story of loss-- and the circuitous paths we walk toward healing.
Making this film has been our answer to the confusion and heartbreak of the past decade. When love gets lost, forgiveness offers an alternate route.
In the age of AI, independent artists are struggling like never before. That's why every aspect of Lupine is devoted to craft: from its thoughtful storytelling to its hand-drawn animation, our intimate approach to this film is in direct response to a world that feels increasingly loud, fast, and artificial. This project has come to embody what we feel is real, true, and worth fighting for.
We welcome you to watch the trailer, join the mailing list, and support the telling of authentic human stories like Lupine.
MAKING PEACE WITH THE PAST
Lupine is a film about forgiveness, as told through the journey of a young girl who is separated from, and later reunited with, a dear childhood friend.
The film's protagonist-- a sensitive girl with a passion for botany-- develops a special interest in lupine plants, which grow and flourish in difficult soil. The lupines symbolically come to represent the protagonist’s emotional heart, ushering her through various chapters of her life and acting as catalysts for her growth.
Though the protagonist's friendships change, fade, and resurface throughout her life, the lupines remain an unwavering constant, demonstrating that love is part of letting go.

CREATIVE PARTNERS

Responsible for the musical heart and title track of Lupine, Alexis Harte is an American singer-songwriter and was co-founder / creative director at multi-award winning Pollen Music Group. In addition to sharing stages with the likes of Taj Mahal, Dar Williams, and Cat Power, Alexis has placed numerous tracks from his 6 studio releases in dozens of national television shows and many films.
In 2016, Alexis penned the signature song for Patrick Osborne’s Pearl, which became the first Oscar-nominated VR film. His song (No Wrong Way Home) went on to win many awards and garnered national airplay on SiriusXM and others.
Alexis continues to evolve his roles further into the film side of the industry. His films have screened (and won awards) at film festivals around the world, including Tribeca and Amarcort. Lupine's title track "Partner" appears on Harte's latest album Thirsty:

As the director, storyboard artist/animator, and filmic writer of Lupine, Heather Langley brings a diverse range of filmmaking skills honed from a decade spent working as a professional storyboard artist in animation studios across Los Angeles.
Heather received her MFA from the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television where she was the recipient of the Matt Groening Fellowship, an award granted to students using film to advocate for social and environmental justice. Heather's animated shorts have premiered at festivals internationally and received numerous accolades, including two CINE Golden Eagle Award Finalist nominations.
Heather's work is heavily influenced by her lifelong love of the outdoors and the resilience of nature. In addition to Lupine and her professional studio work, Heather is currently in production on a comics series discussing the events and aftermath of living through the 2025 Eaton Fire, and a graphic novel.
